I have put together my favorite books on Muay Thai. Some of these are more focused on training, fighting strategy, techniques, conditioning or a general overview of Muay Thai. The books I'm focusing on right now are focused on training and conditioning and am currently putting together an ultimate fitness and technique program on my Muay Thai School website.

Read through the descriptions and click the links to see some customer reviews. I enjoyed reading these books and they all have something different to share for you to learn more about Muay Thai.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

A very comprehensive book on Muay Thai as a whole, to give you an understanding of the rules, regulations, training techniques, history, traditions or rituals. The chapters are set up in a natural sequence which makes reading the book pretty easy.

This book includes both technique and action shots. More than just an overview of basic techniques, the book goes into more advanced techniques used.

Arguably one the top book on Muay Thai right now.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

This book is complete with general descriptions on Muay Thai, including technique, traditions, history, and more. Written by a couple Muay Thai researchers.

A great coffee table reference to Muay Thai. This book is filled with high quality pictures and makes for a great flip through.

If you want a general overview of Muay Thai without going in depth on techniques, then this book is for you.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

Written by real Muay Thai fighters and trainers this book is definitely worth your time. From experience you will gain insight to actual techniques and combinations that were used to win fights. Also includes a section on a day in the life of a fighter, which was an eye opening read.

A good book for my top 9, but there is room for some improvement.

The book focuses more on technique than drills to practice on your own, but it does include a training schedule to follow.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

This book also written by a fighter is basically a comprehensive list of tons of Muay Thai techniques. It goes through a general overview of the techniques and includes photographs to help with the descriptions.

The photographs are mostly of the end of the technique - for example fully extended leg while kicking, and not step by step photographs.

Not an overview of Muay Thai only technique.

Definitely a great book to have as a checklist of technique to learn, and a great supplement to online videos to help further describe some technique.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

Like the title state, this book is on fighting strategies. Written by fighters for fighters, this book goes into the total fight preparation of a Muay Thai fighter.

This is not a general overview of Muay Thai or techniques. This book is written for an experienced Muay Thai student.

In my top 9 since there are very few books written on strategy. This knowledge is a little harder to get and these fighters are sharing this in the book.

Pick it up if you plan on sparring or fighting.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

Unlike the other books on my top 9 list, this book shares a lot of the conditioning techniques that are used in Muay Thai training. This training also includes weight training, calisthenics, cardio and endurance.

The title should emphasize only conditioning training.

Overall this is a great book for strength training, endurance, and conditioning. If you are looking for technique and Muay Thai knowledge this isn't the right book for you. But if you want a great workout program this is the book.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

Although an oldie, written in 1987 this book explains basic strikes very well but not all. A very unique book, there are old pictures that are hard to even find online. This is somewhat a collectors item now, an antique of books on technique.

There are better books available but this is for sure in my top 9, also it has that antique cultural feeling that new westernized books cannot bring.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

This is a great book for beginners and to supplement to your training. The information that you get include history, training, training gear, equipment, technique. The technique even include stance, footwork, and distance in fighting.

Defensive and counter techniques are described in this book. Which is something that some other books do not emphasize.

The last section on training really brings this book together. Allowing you to adapt the skill you have read about into a program.

If you are looking for a well rounded book on Muay Thai that includes mostly everything you need to know to get started - this book is for you.

Muay Thai Book - Muay Thai School

Well illustrated and easy to follow. This book helps an amateur to advanced level fighter follow a system of training.

Helps guide you through training at home, or at the gym; solo or with a partner. Also information about flexibility, strength, and nutrition.

This is a book for someone who already has the basic knowledge of Muay Thai techniques. If you are looking for a training system to apply your techniques to then this book is for you.

Summary

Choosing a book may seem overwhelming, but not if you choose a few. I believe its important to supplement your training with a book, to be always learning. Being able to have a reference of techniques on hand is truly valuable.

Pick a book, you can't go wrong.
