If you ever wanted to get into fighter shape, this is a great opportunity. I have been immersed with the Bas Rutten MMA CD and DVD Program, I have went through his seven rounds and find it to be an amazing conditioning workout. At first, I could make it through a maybe 3 rounds and that was it. It is a crazy conditioning program – and I am loving it. It doesn’t have a lot of combinations but do it as a Muay Thai conditioning drill, and keep your technique sound the whole time.

I just thought I should mention, I thought Bas Rutten was hilarious in his movie role recently in Here Comes the Boom. He definitely made that movie. Anyways back to the review…

I recorded one of the rounds, I forget which number it was, but it was after I was kind of tired – sometimes when I am so tired I just get in the moment and keep going - I thought this was a good point where I could see what I look like when training and critique myself.

So after watching myself, there were a few things I noticed with my form, which I am working to adjusting and have to think about it more often. My hand positioning, I get tired and drop my hands. My transitioning from punches to kicks could be better, I am working on angling and creating space. My distance in punching is WAY too close, so I have adjusted training and have raised all these issues with my training partner. Recording yourself is pretty useful to spot some details in your Muay Thai techniques.

I never really thought of a self-study workout program before, but after doing the Bas Rutten Thai Boxing Series, I will definitely be trying other ones. There are a couple and they have their differences I am sure. I am not sure though, so I will be starting with the George St. Pierre Rush Fit, and write about that when I am done. I am thinking, I will do a comparison between the two.

Finally, I do recommend getting the program – use the CD’s on your stereo and follow along. If I were to give it rating out of 5 I would say 4, since it could get repetitive. I feel like using a training partner holding Thai pads would be the best, but using a heavy bag is pretty good too. Here is the Link to Bas Rutten MMA CD and DVD Program.

Check out the one round on my YouTube channel, and keep an eye out for more to come. I will be posting updates and fun drills soon!

Keep up the Muay Thai Training!

-Mike
